The Performance Basis of Support for Military Rule

An experiment to isolate intrinsic support for military rule. This project investigates whether citizens support military intervention based on performance legitimacy or inherent preference for authoritarian order.

When Does Nation-building Backfire?

Explores how individual-level civic orientation interacts with systemic corruption to influence attitudes towards military rule. We examine the conditions under which strong national identity might paradoxically support non-democratic interventions.

Exposure to Military Coups and Support for Democracy

Uses a natural experiment to test whether exposure to a coup increases voters’ support for democratic governance. By analyzing survey data from regions with varying coup experiences, this study isolates the causal effect of instability on democratic resilience.
